Inside the Museum

Pioneer Playroom

The pioneer playroom gives children a look into life during the pioneer age.  Although the museum is based upon demonstration, the playroom offers interesting “hands on” experiences.  There are many activities for the students to participate in.

Prehistoric Era:

This exhibit contains artifacts collected by Scott High’s Anthropology class.  It contains a life size rock shelter with two mannequins, and a life sized replica of a classic encounter between man and beast.

Scott County Goes to War

This section tells our visitors about World War II.         It has display items, photography, newspaper articles, artifacts, timelines, and a tribute to Scott County soldiers that fought in World War II.

Wildlife Display:

Our Wildlife Display shows the different types of creatures roaming throughout Scott County. The exhibit varies from live to mounted animals  as well as their habitats. The animals come with an explanation of what they are and their behavior.

Coal Mining

-The Coal Mining display entails a life size entrance into a coal mine complete with tracks and a mining cart. It also contains two scale model dioramas of deep and strip mining.
