"Where History Comes Alive" Moon shining

The Moon Shining display more
appropriately named the "Crime and Punishment" exhibit takes an analytical
look at past Scott County crimes. The focus of the exhibit looks
primarily at the economic impact such crimes as moon shining had on Scott
County. Below, a student dressed in character explains how moon
shine was created in days gone by.

![]() The picture above is a complete display of an actual still and provides many who visit the museum with a knowledge of how moon shine was created in the early to mid 1900's.
The exhibit also provides an explanation as to why prohibition was the beginning of what we know today as NASCAR. In order to transport the moon shine from producer to buyer, many would build their engines to run faster to escape the law. Thus the sport of stock car racing was born from prohibition. |
